16.4.2012

Slovenian biochemist Vita Majce is one of 15 recipients of the international scholarship for women in science given out by French company L'Oreal and UNESCO.

Ms. Majce will use the scholarship for her post-doctoral studies at the University of Warwick, in United Kingdom.

The recipients of the two-year US$ 40,000 scholarships were revealed in Paris on 28th of March and they presented their research at the Institute Pasteur in Paris, the French Embassy in Slovenia wrote in a press release on Thursday.

Ms. Majce has a PhD in chemical sciences and is working on developing new organic compounds that would impede the growth of bacteria. Her research is part of the efforts to find new ways of fighting bacteria that are becoming increasingly resilient to antibiotics. Congratulations.

Ms. Majce is the second Slovenian to have won the scholarship for young aspiring women scientists in the 14 years since it is being conferred. The first was biologist Maja Zagmajster in 2008.
