The European Business Awards are aimed at promoting excellence, best practice and innovation in the European business community. In line with the wider EU goals the judging panel monitors the most prominent companies in 34 European companies and invites the best ones to take part in the competition.
Mercator's award was handed over in Barcelona last night to a member of the management for strategic development of staff and the organisation, Vera Aljancic Falez. She said the award was a great honour and encouragement, because Mercator put the people - buyers, staff, suppliers and members of local communities - in the centre of its operations.
Other Slovenian companies competing in various categories were Banka Celje, consulting
firm Data, shopping district BTC, poultry producer Perutnina Ptuj and car parts maker Iskra Mehanizmi. The latter received an honorary ribbon for business efficiency.
Last year, ultralight plane maker Pipistrel bagged the Award for Innovation.
